What was built

A complete redesign and rebuild of palmcm.com, replacing the firm's previous WordPress site. We rebuilt every template and page on a lightweight stack, migrated the blog, and kept every URL alive through the cutover with redirects. The site has been maintained and measured since launch.

What made it fast

The decisions behind the scores. Written for the next developer.

  1. 01

Images are served as AVIF with WebP and JPEG fallbacks. The server negotiates per browser: the same photo ships as a 44 KB AVIF where the JPEG costs 100 KB, with caching that respects the negotiation.

  2. 02

The largest visible element is text, and it's treated like it. The heading font is self-hosted and preloaded, so the browser paints the headline without waiting on a stylesheet chain.

  3. 03

Tracking loads late. Analytics and the ad pixel are deferred out of the paint window instead of running in the head.

  4. 04

No page builder in the delivered page. The markup is the design, not a builder's wrapper around it.

  5. 05

Accessibility

Lighthouse, desktop

Built to WCAG 2.1 AA and audited with Lighthouse. Current score 96; three low-contrast elements and one generic link text are on the fix list and take it to 100.

Who runs it now

Palm's team sends content and campaign requests; we implement them. We maintain the site's performance, security, indexing and structured data, measured in a monthly brief.
